Second Year University Project Menswear project A 'Macaroni' was a sort of eccentric 18th century fop-like creature, they did the whole white wig powdered faces thing.
We were given flowers to design our costumes around, unfortunatley we didn't get to pick them ourselves, i was given the Peony. So i found a really obscure orange one instead of the usual pink. It was designed and constructed by me and modeled by my friend Dave who also forgot to shave that morning so mind the stubble (poor bloke had no idea what he was letting himself in for till he turned up that day! But he got really into it in the end)
Includes: Shirt, Cravat, Waistcoat, Breeches and Coat Wig styled by me
The culottes aren't the kind of material or stitching typical of what I've seen in most French paintings from that time period. But I do like your spin on it since it is probably more representative of theater costume, and not that of the royal court.
The project was inspired by my tutors old tutor's designs for the Beggar's Opera by John Gay (if that makes sense), they were super ornate with loads of surface design, so it's not strictly historically acurate, but it was fun
